Engraving. Plate 481 x 605mm (19 x 23¾"). Large margins on 3 sides. Water stain to lower left margin corner; trimmed to plate along upper edge. Slight time staining.
Interior of a tavern with soldiers drinking and smoking, accompanied by some women; a few men sweet-talking the women; a maid entering through the vaulted doorway at left, holding a plate of radishes and pushing off one of the soldiers while another pulls at her apron; ham and bread on the table at centre with a small boy reaching for the ham; a man standing underneath shelves at right and urinating against the wall while holding a pipe; a cat and a dog pause during a fight in the foreground.
