Four men, wearing furs, turbans and long robes trimmed with tassels, tearing their hair, beating their breasts, grieving the death of Pyramus and Thisbe, who lie on the ground, she holding a sword at her side, one man holding a flaming torch, with crumbling, overgrown city walls behind them and a search party carrying torches in the background to the left. Thisbe and Pyramus were ill-fated lovers.
