The Antiquarian.V.6. 15.
Etching. Plate 178 x 126mm (7 x 5").
Caricature portrait of a man in profile to the right. He is smiling and holds up in his left hand a coin with a head inscribed "Otho Emp". In his right hand is a cane with a chased handle. He wears sepctacle, a large flowing curled wig, an oddly-shaped cap decorated with a pair of horns like those worn on medieval women's head-dresses, and old-fashioned heavily-trimmed coat, a long brocade waistcoat and boots (which appear to date from the 17th century) with large spurs. His sword has a crescent-shaped hilt. Representation of Rev Dr Jeremiah Milles, Dean of Exeter (1717-1784), he served as President of the Society of Antiquaries from 1768-84.
