A family of travellers setting up camp at the edge of a copse, with a low tent in which a boy sleeps, two mules pasturing and a man and two women laying a fire and constructing a tripod from which to hang a pan. This was a pair to Morland's 'The Happy Cottagers', a painting also owned by Stuart.
