A view of Shere Mill Pond, surrounded by trees and reeds, with a building in the background in the centre. One of the pioneers of the 19th century etching revival, Sir Francis Seymour Haden (1818 - 1910) married the sister of James McNeill Whistler (1834 - 1903) and became an important influence on the American-born etcher's style.
