The Pen y Gwryd hotel near Mount Snowdon, built as a farmhouse in 1810, subsequently a coaching inn. Coaches and horses can be seen here, along with a sign advertising 'guides and ponies to Snowdon'. In 1953 it was used as the training headquarters of the first successful Everest climbing expedition.
