Barbara Palmer (née Villiers) (1640 - 1709), mistress of Charles II during the 1660s, created Duchess of Cleveland in 1670. Three-quarter length seated to the left, glancing towards the viewer, wearing a luxurious gown and pearl necklace. After Dutch painter and collector Sir Peter Lely (1618 - 1680).
