A view showing the proposed plan for the bridge linking Clifton with Leigh Woods in Somerset. Plans to build a bridge were discussed as early as 1753, however, the bridge was not completed until 1864. The final design was drawn up by William Henry Barlow and John Hawkshaw and was based on an earlier design by I.K. Brunel.
