Ross Castle on the Island of Ross Great Lake of Killarney.
Hand coloured lithograph. Very rare. Sheet size: 330 x 420mm (13 x 16˝"). Very small pin hole in centre.
A scarce view of Ross Castle, Ireland, with figures in the foreground, the castle in the centre, and hills in the distance. The castle is situated on Lough Leane in the south west of Killarney. The main part of the castle was built in the 14th century by the O’Donoghue clan, the rulers of the area. The rooms in the tower were a reception room, a bed chamber and unusually the top storey was the main hall. It was one of the last strongholds to surrender to Cromwell’s forces in 1652 during the English Civil War.
