A View of Somerset.
Pub'd by Dighton, Spring Gardens, Dec.r 1811.
Coloured etching. Sheet 320 x 230mm (12½ x 9"). Trimmed within plate, mounted on album paper, horizontal centre fold.
A satirical portrait of Edward Adolphus St Maur (born Seymour, 1775-1855), 11th Duke of Somerset, submitted to Dighton by 'C.B.', probably one of the Duke's friends. A gifted mathematician and President of the Linnean Society of London, the Duke never joined the army, so he must have been a volunteer officer.
BM Satires 11751.
