A young woman wearing a mob cap, shawl and apron, sitting at the door of a thatched cottage, her left arm hooked over the back of her chair, reading a letter. There is a basket upside down beside her, and a bird drinking from a plate on the ground next to it. A young man is seen bribing a second woman behind a tree next to the cottage to the right.
