A large plate of a salmon, usually published in Sir William Jardine's 'British Salmonidę', but this example apparently a plate spoiled in production. Jardine (1800-74), best-known for his populist 'Naturalist's Library' series, was a keen angler and authority on salmon and trout in the British Isles, recognised in 1860 by his appointment to the Royal Commission on the Salmon Fisheries of England and Wales. The fish shown here was caught near Jardine Hall, his estate in Annandale.
