A portrait of Mrs. Frances Anne Crewe (1744 - 1818) as St Genevieve. A leader of fashion and whig hostess, she married John Crewe, 1st Baron Crewe of Crewe in 1766. Whole-length, sitting reading in front of a rocky mound, with her chin resting on her right hand, and her hair dressed with a veil. She has a dog at her feet, with five lambs lying to the left, and one nibbling at a plant to right. A landscape with a river can be seen in the distance to the left.
