A scene from Jean de la Fontaine's (1621-1695) fable 'Friar Phillipes Geese' a tale in which a friar takes his young son into the wilderness and brings him up free from temptation. However, at the age of twenty the son meets two young women and becomes besotted, when he asks his father what they are the friar replies that they are geese. Title in French and English.
