Rural scene with two figures, sheep and dog, after Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg (1740-1812). An artist with an extraordinarily wide range of interests (including alchemy, mysticism and chemistry) who made major contributions to costume design and scenery painting for the theatre, Loutherbourg was also an accomplished painter of landscapes and genre scenes.
