A view of the small village of Portree, on a ridge of land running into the sea, forming a bay on the left where several sailing ships and other boats are sailing. A shepherd and his dog watch sheep in the right foreground with a background mountainous shores in the distance. From William Daniell's 'A Voyage Round Great Britain', a series of 308 aquatints published in eight volumes between 1814-1825, described by R.V. Tooley as 'the most important colour plate book on British Topography'.
