Il Sera Digne de la France.
Mezzotint. 255 x 330mm (10 x 13"). Cut to platemark.
'He will be worthy of France.' A fanciful scene of the Emperor Napoleon at his writing desk, distracted by his young son who sleeps with his head in Napoleon's lap. The boy's hand is on his toy sword; a gun and a drum lie on the floor. Maria Louisa looks on. This print was probably published while Napoléon François Charles Joseph Bonaparte was in exile in Austria, the great hope of the Bonapartiste faction. However he died of tuberculosis in 1832.
