De lachende Ezopus, op het koolmaal, gehouden ter afscheyd van actieapen.
Engraving. 290 x 360mm (11½ x 14¼"), set in letterpress Centrefold split.
'The laughing Aesop, present at the cole (or cabbage)-feast, which was given at the leave-taking of the stock-apes', a satire on the Mississippi Bubble. Bombario (the hunchbacked usurer (a Jew)), dressed as Aesop, laughs at the monkeys eating cabbages; to the right a pack of wolves chase sheep; and under the title is a cloud, on which the figure of Time passes judgement, forcing the Lion of the Netherlands to pay Mercury in gold, not paper. Published in 'Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid' (The Picture of Stupidity), a collection of satires on financial bubbles.
