[France] [Marie Antoinette][Hommage des Arts Donné a la Citoyenne au Concours de Institution tenue par les Citoyennes hurard, à Rouen.]
Engraving with large margins, platemark 350 x 250mm (13¾ x 9¾"). Foxing to edges; slight creasing.
Putti playing musical instruments and an angel holding aloft a medallion portrait of Marie-Antoinette. Frontispiece to Boilly's 'IVe Recueil d'Airs choisis avec accompagnement de Harpe'. As Michel records, this print was also sold separately 'as a print glorifying the queen, a genre still flourishing in 1776'. After the French revolution this plate was altered, with Marie-Antoinette's portrait replaced by an angel holding a symbol of liberty: such alterations were common as publishers looked to make their stock of prints appropriate for circulation in Post-Revolutionary France.
