Samuel Masters, preacher at Bridewell Hospital in London in the late 17th century and a great supporter of the 'Glorious Revolution' which brought William III to power. He recalled that under James II the English lived in 'slavish fear' and almost lost the liberty of thinking freely. His sermons were sometimes published.
