Bartolome de las Casas (1484-1566) was a 16th century Spanish Dominican priest, and the first resident Bishop of Chiapas in Mexico, He defended the rights of indigenous Peruvians against the slavery imposed on them by the Spanish Conquistadors. Here depicted on his deathbed, he attended by grateful Peruvian Indians.
