On the 21st August, 1879, several villagers from Knock, Co. Mayo, witnessed an apparition of Our Lady, St Joseph and St John the Evangelist, and a little to their left an altar with a cross and the figure of a lamb, at the South gable of Knock Parish Church. They watched the apparition for two hours, in the pouring rain and recited the Rosary. It is said that there were fifteen official witnesses to the apparition. This illustration depicts the event, as drawn by one of those witnesses at the scene, 'W. Collins'.
