Two ladies in a shop interior representing the glass staircase; the great merchant-mercers of the 18th century, Escalier de Cristal was a famous company during the Restoration. It was undoubtedly created in 1802 by Widow Barthelemy Desarnaud, at 162 and 163 Rue Valois, Paris. In 1840 it was taken over by Pierre-Isidore Lahoche.
