[Group of Women, including Helene Foument?, with an angel.]
Etching printed in brown, scarce; platemark 110 x 175mm (4¼ x 7"). Thread margins; good impression.
A group of women, possibly with Rubens' wife Helene Foument in the centre. Engraved by Maria Cosway (1760-1838), history painter and educationist. Cosway exhibited her paintings at the Royal Academy from 1781 to 1789, and occasionally thereafter, but her artistic ambitions were hampered by her husband, the artist Richard Cosway, who refused to allow her to sell her work. She was also a prolific printmaker.
