A portrait of naval officer Sir Andrew Mitchell (1757 - 1806), bust-length, in an oval, slightly turned to the right, in naval uniform. An illustration to the Naval Chronicle (1800). Sir Andrew Mitchell (1757 - 1806) was an Admiral of the Blue in the Royal Navy. He was commander-in-chief of the North America and West Indies Station from 1802 to his death in 1806. His wife Mary died years later and was buried in the crypt of St. Paul's Church (Halifax), Nova Scotia. In 1805 he was raised to the rank of Admiral of the Blue. He died in Bermuda after a severe illness on 26 February 1806.
