Charles Ir. Roy d'Angleterre.
Engraving with very large margins, platemark approx 305 x 190mm (12 x 7½").
Charles I (1600-1649), king of England, Scotland and Ireland. Charles was king during most of the English Civil War (1642-51), towards the end of which he was executed rather than abdicating. Plate from Isaac de Larrey's 'Histoire d'Angleterre' (1697-1713), from a design by Adriaen van der Werff (1659-1722), acclaimed as the most important Dutch Master during his lifetime, although his reputation declined from the late 18th century onwards.
