By Flemish artist Cornelis Schut (1597 - 1655). Spending three years in Italy from 1624 to 1627, Schut adopted the High Baroque style of Italian artists such as Pietro da Cortona, which equipped him for interpreting the themes of the Counter-Reformation in various commissions for churches and monasteries in the Low Countries after his return. Another influence on Schut was Rubens, who he worked for in 1635.
