Book 25. Twelve Prints of John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progess representing the principal Occurrences in Christian's Journey.
Set of 12 engravings with large margins. Each c. 175 x 280mm (7 x 11"), stitched on left edge, as issued. Tear entering title of plate 1; edges worn and toned.
Rare set of twelve plates illustrating the First Part of John Bunyan's Christian allegory, starting with Christian taking leave of his family and ending with him and Hopeful crossing the River of Death. It appears that illustrations for the Second Part were never executed: the British Museum set of Bowles & Carver re-issues only include these twelve.
The BM only lists re-issues by Bowles & Carver.
