A portrait of British antiquary and author, Edward Waterhouse (1619 - 1670). Head and shoulders in an oval frame, wearing a cap, collar and gown. This portrait was the frontispiece to his publication 'Fortescutus illustratus, or a commentary on that nervous treatise De laudibus legum Anglię' (1663). A coat of arms is inscribed below image, with a motto on scroll above arms reading "Firma Nobis Fides".
