[Virgin with Child.]
[n.d., c.1650 bit later.]
Etching. Platemark: 145 x 140mm (5¾ x 5½"). Top left corner chipped very small margins.
Virgin with Child, sitting and turned to right, with right arm on a table by a vase of roses. After Flemish painter and etcher Cornelis Schut (1597 - 1655). Schut was the publisher of his own etchings and his signature appears with the words 'Cum privilegio' in most of them. His work is influenced by Rubens, but there is no documentary evidence for any direct relationship with his studio. He travelled in Spain where his brother worked as engineer for Philip IV. Between 1622 and 1627 he was in Rome.
