An interior view of a full Covent Garden Theatre, (the original Royal Opera House - built by Edward Shepherd for John Rich in 1732). An animated scene with an elaborate backdrop featuring a waterfall takes place on the stage, as the crowd, including the Royal family, watches on. An illustration to Phillips' 'Modern London', published in 1804.
