Innovative portrait by Thomas Worlidge (1700 - 1766), with the sitter extending his left arm and casting shadow outside of the oval border. 'The English Rembrandt', Worlidge was a pupil of Alessandro Maria Grimaldi, whose daughter Arabella he married. Later impression (c.1808) after Worlidge's widow Mary issued new impressions in 1767 with the number '122' added lower right to correspond with the catalogue of his prints she produced (in which she listed this print as 'Cornelius Silvus').
