Sr Anthony Vandyke Kt.
Etching, platemark 140 x 95mm (5½ x 3¾"). Thread margins; on cream wove paper.
Dramatic portrait of Anthony van Dyck, probably copied from Vorsterman's in the 'Icones Principum Virorum' of c.1630-45. That print itself purported to be after a self-portrait by van Dyck, but the grisaille on which it is based (now kept in the collection of the Duke of Buccleuch, Boughton House) is of uncertain attribution. Lifetime impression of this print.
State ii/iii; W50; D222.
