A Hawaiian goose, an illustration from 'Voyage autour du monde exécuté sur la corvette la Bonite', the account of a circumnavigation under Auguste-Nicolas Vaillant. The Bonite set off around the world in 1836 on a political, scientific and commercial voyage. Travelling to South America it rounded Cape Horn into the Pacific Ocean, stopping in the Hawaiian Islands before making their way to Asia. From China they followed the coast down to South East Asia, before stopping at ports along the Indian coastline. After almost two years at sea the Bonite headed back to France via Cape Town and St. Helena, returning to Brest in 1837. His account consisted of thirteen text and three plate volumes.
