Copper engraving, sheet 420 x 570mm (16˝ x 22˝"). Cut to plate on right and (unevenly) top edges; repairs to title area; small pieces of paper stuck to image; paper watermarked.
Engraving by William Woollett after Richard Wilson's painting 'Snowdon from Llyn Nantlle', c.1765-6 (Liverpool, Walker Art Gallery). Wilson was the first major British landscape painter, and following early study on the continent adapted his models (Claude Lorrain, Gaspard Dughet) to British scenery. The engraver William Woollett also specialized in landscape, and in making many prints after Claude and Dughet as well as Wilson, he underlined the common ground between them.
