A Settee, a boat with a lateen sail with the front corner cut off (although here the sails are furled), shown approaching the 'Laterna', the light house at the entrance to the harbour of Genova built in 1543. Plate 36 of the 'Liber Nauticus, and Instructor in the Art of Marine Drawing' by Dominic Serres and his son John Thomas Serres. Both were marine painters to the king, and John was the Master of Drawing at the Chelsea Naval School and, according to the title page of the 'Liber', 'Marine Draught-man to the Honourable the Board of Admiralty'.
