A bomb ketch, a small ship armed with mortars for bombarding land fortifications, in Plymouth Sound. Plate 23 of the 'Liber Nauticus, and Instructor in the Art of Marine Drawing', by Dominic Serres and his son John Thomas Serres, published during the Napoleonic Wars. Both were marine painters to the king, and John was the Master of Drawing at the Chelsea Naval School and, according to the title page of the 'Liber', 'Marine Draught-man to the Honourable the Board of Admiralty'.
