A posthumous portrait of Auke Stellingwerf (1635-65), a Dutch admiral who died commanding a squadron in the battle of Lowestoft, during the Second Anglo-Dutch War. He is shown half-length, his baton in his right hand, leaning on a cannon, the battle raging behind him.
