Distant View of Seringapatam, from Meadow's Redoubt.
Published as the Act directs, by R. Bowyer, Historic Gallery, Pall Mall, 1796.
Coloured aquatint. 500 x 620mm (19¾ x 24½"). Several repaired tears, centre fold reinforced.
A view overlooking the city of Srirangapatna, Mysore, from Robert Home's 'A Description of Seringapatam'. This rare series reproduced some of the views from Holmes's 'Select Views in Mysore' (1794), but in aquatint rather than line engraving and in a larger format. At the time Mysore was still independent under Tipu Sultan, but the Siege of Seringapatam in 1799 brought the state under the contol of the East India Company.
