A portrait of Wapello (1787-1842), chief of the Fox or Meskwaki tribe., published in McKenny & Hall's 'History of the Indian Tribes of North America'. His policy of friendship to white settlers has led to his name being given to the city of Wapello, Wapello County and USS Wapello (YN-56).
