A portrait of 'Bear in the Forks of a Tree', a chief of the Fox (Meskwaki) tribe, published in McKenny & Hall's 'History of the Indian Tribes of North America'. He was described by Hall as aged about 40, a man of courtesy and integrity with a perfect aversion to traders. He had seven wives but did not smoke or drink.
