A scene in Smithfield Market. Henry Hunt (1773 - 1835), with the head of an ass, addresses cattle, horses, sheep, and pigs, all on their hind-legs, from a large open cart. At his right hand flies a large red flag inscribed 'Universal Suffrage', at his left is a corresponding blue one, inscribed 'Peace And Goodw[ill]'. On July 21st 1831, Hunt presided at a Reformers' meeting at Smithfield; disturbances were expected, but did not occur.
