The Birth of Political Sin.
[London: Thomas McLean, 1 Sept. 1832.]
Coloured lithograph. Printed area 350 x 250mm (13¾ x 9¾"). Laid on card.
A satire of 'Paradise Lost': Wellington stands, dressed as in Roman army and sporting angel's wings, while a female figure carrying a flaming sword and 'Reform' on her shield springs from the top of his head. Around her are Wellington's words: 'I declare there shall be no reform'. Onlookers, including Newcastle and Cumberland, look aghast. From 'McLean's Monthly Sheet of Caricatures No 33'.
BM Satire 17251.
