Allegorical illustration to Lucretius' 'De Rerum Natura', with vanitas symbols and the three-headed hound cerberus alluding to the discussion of death in book three of the work. Frans van Mieris designed six illustrations which were engraved by Wandelaar for the 1725 Leiden publication of the work. These were copied by Duflos for the 1754 French publication. In the middle of image "Quies" on stone seat.
