Published by Leggatt Bro.s., 62 Cheapside & 30 St James's St, London, 1907.
Engraving, small margins, signed by the artist. 205 x 260mm (8 x 10¼").
Eight grouse flying over a farmland, one just being shot, the title being a reference to card-playing. The eight remarques are on a similar theme, with fish being 'Two under the line', a fleeing bookmaker saying 'I Leave it to You Partner', a golfer snapping his clubs, etc. Frank Paton (1855-1909), best known for his paintings of animals and scenes of rural life. This print is from his series of etched Christmas cards published annually by Edward Ernest Leggatt from 1880 until Paton's death in 1909, costing half-a-guinea each. Each year a number of the prints would be sent from the printers to be signed in pencil by Paton.
