The Seven Bishops, were imprisoned by James II for seditious libel over their opposition to the second Declaration of Indulgence, however they were not found guilty. The bishops were: Thomas White, Bishop of Peterborough; Francis Turner, Bishop of Ely; Sir Jonathan Trelawny, Bishop Exeter and Winchester; John Lake, Bishop of Chichester; Thomas Ken, Bishop of Bath and Wells; William Lloyd, Bishop of Worcester; and William Sancroft, Bishop of Canterbury.
