Pub May 31 1830 by T McLean 26 Haymarket.
Etching. Plate 370 x 255mm (14¾ x 10"). Trimmed.
Satire on the resignation of natural historian Joseph Sabine from his position as Honorary Secretary of the Horticultural Society. Sabine is represented as Adam, driven from the 'Horticultural Garden' by a burly angel (right), with a flaming sword. Sabine looks down shedding tears. At his feet is text reading 'It is curious to reflect on what may be the consolations of Mr S—b—e under his present circumstances driven, like Adam from the Garden to the field—to the Zoological farm at Kingston what will be his next pursuit"? vide Gardener's Magazine—April 1830'.
