Map of Potchefstroom, showing fifteen mile radius.
[London: War Office, 1907.]
Sunprint map on linen, white on blue, rare. Sheet 920 x 760mm (36 x 30"). A few signs of wear; creases as usual.
A map of the environs of Potchefstroom in the Transvaal, published by the British War Office shortly after the end of the 2nd Boer War (1899-1902). It was created using the sunprint method: a light-sensitive dye is spread over a waxed cloth sheet, and the original map is laid over and place in the sun. The printed parts of the original shade the dye so they don't darken, remaining white while the unshaded parts turn blue.
