General Election___Dedicated Electors in General-the difference between One-hour after the return & one month after. No1. _Election Squibs and Crackers for 1830 - Look on this picture & on that
Pub July 8 1830 by T. McLean 26 Haymarket_Election Caricatures can be executed for Gentlemen in three hours.
Hand-coloured etching. 235 x 343mm (9¼ x 13½"). Cut to border.
Contrasting designs showing the attitude of an MP towards his constituents at different stages of the election campaign. On the left the successful candidate, elderly and fashionable, in top-boots, his hat on the ground, stoops to grasp with both hands the left hand of a comely and respectably dressed man (right), whose looped-up apron indicates the artisan or small master; with an insinuating and disingenuous smile. The elector, wearing a big favour in his hat, raises his right hand in a gesture of delight. On the right the elector (left), dressed as before, but hand in hand, bows to his Member, who scowls fiercely at him over his right shoulder. The other holds a paper (a Government whip), ‘Musters [Ministers] wishing to pass the measure your vote will be required’.
