Satire on the Act to abolish Church Briefs and to provide for the better collection and application of voluntary contributions for enlarging and building churches, brought in by Peel in May 1828. John Bull is prevented from exiting church by two bishops making a barrier by holding out a collecting-plate. The one on the left is probably Manners-Sutton, the other is probably intended for Howley. On the left pillar is a notice headed Easter Dues; on the right are two others headed Notice Poors Rate and Church Rates. A large bill is headed G. R— and signed R Peel.
BM Satires: 15536.
